well i think GHD's are pretty good. But not the normal ones, you can get thicker ones that suit thicker hair.

The ion hair striaghtener. It is 100 dollars, but believe me IT IS WORTH IT. I used to have really thick hair, but once I used this it made my hair so silky and thin. Its perfect. I love it. I got mine at Sallys beauty Supply. So you can go to their website if youve never heard of them.

well GHD's are one of the best hair straighners but they cost an arm and a leg so i go cordless inspirations and my cousin useed them she has extremeley thick hair and hers stayed straight for 2 dyas

I got CHI from target for $100, and it comes with two years warranty. I use it every day, it's a good hair straightener.
the CHI is amazing!!! and if you do it right youll hair wont curl up even in humid weather!
