GHDs, are apparently the best Straighteners ever made, some of my friends have them and they completely straighten your hair just going over it once.

Don't know if there sold in the US though, but about 拢120.00 in the UK ($180.9) so that's probably out of your price range, but apart from that I don't know.
sallys is really good. i like them, but the one i use is

Remmington Wet.2.Straight

It works for me

But if you do buy it, don't straigten it when its wet...it'll damage your hair even more than it would when its dry

Hope this helps =)
GHD's are great!

there 拢100, not quite in between, but its alot less than the chi's, plus really cheap straighteners tend not to work so well, so really if you get a cheap one you might waste your money
the ones that i use are really good, they are Andrew Collinge, GHD's and Futura Baby, those are from italy but they are really good.
wet to dry, it drys your hair, and smooths out frizz! (its what i use so i kno it works!) p.s. its is only 30 dollas but it is great!
the best one is the Kiyoseki http://www.kstyler.com/order-now.html it doesn't ruin your hair... my friend has this one.. and i am saving up money to get this one... It is amazing....
Conair or Revelon are usually good brands
go to sallys, they have some good ones for like 40-60 dollars. thats what i used before i got my chi
