What is a good hair straightener?

I want a really good flat iron straightener. I don't want anything over... $50. My hair is very very very thick and puffy. It frizzes easily. So, I need one that will straighten and keep it straight. Any brands to know of? Where can I purchase them? Any products I need to buy with it? Please help! Thanks!

Also, any tips to keep my hair from breaking withOUT using special shampoo?? I have thick hair, and it doesn't break easily, but I don't wat it to, so anyone tell me please :)

Thanks! What is a good hair straightener?
As a stylist, I have used a lot of flat irons/hair straighteners, including Sedu, Hai, Infrashine, Chi, Paul Mitchell, Solia, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss Ghd, T3, Kenta etc. You should get a Professional hair straightener, they style much better and faster, and most importantly, they protect your hair.

In terms of performance:

The best ones are: Sedu, Kenta, Solia, Infrashine, Ghd and Chameleon. These are top of the line professional brands

Above average: Chi, Hai, Paul Mitchell,

Average: T3, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss

Below Average: Conair, Remington, Vidal Sassoon, Revlon, Bed Head etc. These are cheap drugstore brands that tend to cause hair damages. If you care about your hair, do NOT buy them.

=== Flat Iron Hair Straighteners FAQ ======

Q: What size should I choose?

A: For most people, 1';, 1-1/4'; or 1.5'; are all good choices. If you have very thick, coarse, long or ethic hair, bigger size (1.5'; or 2';) will save you some time. If you have thin, fine hair, get a smaller one (1'; or 3/4';).

Q: What temperature should I should on my hair?

A: Based on my expereince, 380F is the average temperature to use. If you hair is thick and coarse, bump it up a bit, if you hair is fine or overprocessed, start it at somewhere 300F, and try it. If the setting does not work well for you, increase a bit until you get a setting that works well for you but does not burn your hair. Trial and error.

I really hate to break it to you but the professional, non damaging actually working irons are waaaay over 50$. The cheapest one I can think of is a Solia and it's about 88$. But a couple lucky people have been lucky with the Remington and Conair straighteners and those are like 30$. If you're willing to take the risk than get the Remington or Conair but personally I'd pay a little extra for an iron that is guaranteed to make good results
i have really thick easily curly hair too. but I use just any hair straightener but what I do do is put mousse in my hair after straightening it then leave for about 15 minutes then comb it through so your hair doesn't stay like hard and solid. and I find that it will stay straight all day with no frizz. Hope this helps!
you can't really get a good straightener for 50.00 or less. i would get a tourmaline or a chi but those cost about 70.00 and up but they work really good and don't damage your hair.

if you don't want your hair to break, don't put it up in a tight bun or pony after you get out of the shower. use conditioner every time and only use it on your ends then brush through your hair.

hope i helped!!!

:)
The Chi!!! i don't straighten but my friends do and they use a Chi. It works AWESOMELY!!!! and it doesn't damage their hair!!!!
Chi, its worth every penny :)
CHI!!! I have thick thick wavy/frizzy hair and this does wonders!!!!!!!!
