Looking for a good hair straightener, any recommendations?

I've been looking at some hair straighteners but I'm unsure which one I should buy. I do run on a budget so I'm looking for a straightener that works well, but costs less than $50 dollars.

Also, does the product work well? And what can I do to prevent any hair damage?Looking for a good hair straightener, any recommendations?
real professionals don't buy their stuff at sallys. lol.

if you want a true, decent flat iron, you should invest and get a professional one. i have a paul mitchell version, and it's the best thing i've bought for myself and my clients. it gets as hot as 400-degrees! drugstore irons don't get nearly that hot.

the best thing is, though, that because it's ceramic, it heats evently across the entire plate, making for easier ironing and saving time!

drugstore irons, like conair and such, claim to be ';ceramic,'; but they're merely coated in ceramic. eventually, the coating will wear off - and guess where it is - ON YOUR HAIR!

since you're willing to spend $50, why not save up another $50-$75 and get a decent iron? it'll last you forever (and it'll save your hair, too!)

ask your local salon for advice on the best model. or, do a yahoo! search for ';paul mitchell flat iron'; and see what you can find.

2 other decent brands are chi (which will definately cost you, but it's quality!) and rusk (i think it's a tiny bit cheaper than paul mitchell)

good luck!

also - you definately need a protecting serum before you put that much heat on your hair. while your'e at the salon, ask for paul mitchell super skinny or redken smooth down heat glide. biolage also makes a great silicone serum. all 3 will cost you around $15 each, so it doesn't matter what one you get. generally, super skinny is best on coarser type hair, but i use it all the time. (my hair is medium to fine)

but please don't buy any of those at meijers, target, rite-aid, etc. salon products are %100 guaranteed only when sold by a professional!

hope this helps :)Looking for a good hair straightener, any recommendations?
ust me, i understand. i saved up for SO LONG to get that flat iron!! and since i'm a cosmetologist, i get things at a much cheaper rate than the public, so i really understand how some things that you want are just waaay too much.

i have a vidal sassoon one that works really well, i have thick curly hair and have tried many straighteners that havent worked.. this one gets very hot (has setting from 1-20) and leaves my hair shiny and smoothe when done. costs only about $20 or so
go to sally's

they have a lot of products that most hair salons use
Use an ionic flat iron. It will not curl back easly.

Solia makes a Tourmaline Ceramic Ionic Flat Iron.

According to the Solia flat iron website, ';tourmaline,

a precious stone, is used to generate up to 6 times more

negative ions than traditional ceramic irons';.

okay. go to walgreens and get any Conair one it is great!
For a high-end professional flat iron, use a T3 Flat Iron or a Chi Flat Iron. They are both ceramic tourmaline coated irons and are ionic, leaving your hair smooth, silky and shiny. I bought mine at Sleekhair.com. They have pretty good deals on flat irons. http://www.sleekhair.com/7119.html and http://www.sleekhair.com/10001.html
