What is tourmaline (hair straighteners)??

I'm looking on ebay at straighteners, and I just want to know what ';tourmaline'; and ';ionic'; mean, and what are the benefits??What is tourmaline (hair straighteners)??
i know what ionic stands for, ionic is a charge of negative ions released from your appliance so theres a sort of a reaction to make your hair shiny, tourmaline is a coating like ceramic again its also used in your non stick frying pans so if you know what its job is not sticking, even heating out temprature , strong and shinyWhat is tourmaline (hair straighteners)??
I have no idea of tourmaline...but ionic seems quite hot recently!!! almost the very hot products will emphasis in IONIC!!! they say no harm for hair...I never try, so I have no idea at all too.......
Solia makes a Tourmaline Ceramic Ionic Flat Iron.

According to the Solia flat iron website, ';tourmaline,

a precious stone, is used to generate up to 6 times more

negative ions than traditional ceramic irons';.( $75/85)

Tourmaline is a silicate mineral. It's used in ionic straighteners as a very thin coating. It actually provides the negative ions that are supposed to help hair with shine, smoothness, less static and frizz. They're trendy right now, but I'm not sure if they actually help.

As the coating of tourmaline thins out (it can hold a limited amount of ions!), it has an expiry rate, meaning that after the last ion is used up, your straightener is not ';ionic'; anymore - just the regular kind.
